Transitioning from Computer Technician to Lead Web Developer: A Journey of Technical Growth.
Started working as a Computer Technician, PC troubleshooter and other technical aspect of information technology for 5 years. It’s been struggling journey but at the same time boring career path. Don’t get me wrong, most of the time my day-to-day work is filling papers, update inventory and purchases that you might say its more of administrative task rather than fixing computer, printer, monitor and the like. Most of the complained or trouble call by client (office users) are just common-sense issue. For example, I got a called that her PC won’t turn off when I got to her office or cubicle and check her PC the power cord is not plug in, or in not so distance past when computer still use AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator) the AVR is not plug in to the power outlet. That same scene happens every morning in the office, then in the afternoon (since my work is a 9 – 5 work hours) all is quiet and just watch YouTube and other streaming site that is I must not be caught doing it.
During the initial phase of my career, I embarked on a path as a Computer Technician, delving into the intricate world of computer hardware and troubleshooting. For five years, I honed my skills in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, ensuring optimal performance of computer systems. This experience instilled in me a strong foundation in problem-solving and a meticulous approach to technical challenges.
As my passion for technology grew, I realized the potential for personal and professional growth in the vast realm of information technology. Motivated to diversify my skill set, I eagerly explored various technical aspects beyond computer troubleshooting. This exploration exposed me to the dynamic landscape of web development, sparking a newfound interest in creating impactful digital experiences.
Through dedication and continuous learning, I positioned myself for the golden opportunity to transition into the role of a Website Developer, which eventually led me to become a Lead Web Developer. This milestone was a testament to the dedication and perseverance I had exhibited throughout my journey in information technology. The chance to work in this role presented an exciting prospect to showcase my expertise and take on greater responsibilities within the field.
As a Lead Web Developer, I assumed the responsibility of spearheading projects, crafting visually appealing and functional websites that catered to diverse client needs. This role required a comprehensive understanding of web development frameworks, programming languages, and an eye for design. With each project, I grew more adept at optimizing user experiences, ensuring seamless navigation, and incorporating cutting-edge technologies to stay ahead of industry trends.
In the ever-evolving landscape of information technology, it is imperative to embrace a mindset of continuous learning. Throughout my journey, I recognized the significance of staying abreast of emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices. This commitment to learning not only elevated my skills but also enhanced my ability to deliver innovative and efficient web solutions.
Embarking on a career as a Computer Technician paved the way for my eventual transformation into a Lead Web Developer. The five years I spent troubleshooting and honing my technical skills prepared me to seize the golden opportunity of becoming a Website Developer. This transition was marked by a commitment to continuous learning and an unwavering passion for the field of information technology. As I look forward to new challenges and opportunities in the future, I am grateful for the journey that has shaped me into the skilled professional I am today.
Often or once in a blue moon the trouble compiled as it was that day a powerful EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) was blown and some computer suddenly wont turn on even though all is plug in. A beeping computer that sounds like its going to blow anytime. For whatever reason all hell broke loose, and the whole day nothing is going right. When those time comes, I say to my self what’s going on? What did I do wrong the last time? Is it my fault or someone’s fault? It’s like your waging war against the machine. Then I decided to upgrade my career, but not entirely change because I’m still not confident to get out my comfort zone.
Up until I was given the golden opportunity to work as Website Developer, or Lead Web Developer to be exact. It was a challenge to me by my hiring manager to develop a website and put it online in less than 3 months. I don’t recall the year and date of my transition but surely it was a memorable because its open a new dimension in my IT career. But before that let be back track a little bit. Before this golden opportunity came, I already making website left and right. Not so good though, but somehow its animated not just static. Some form submission and embedding link and plugins now a days we call it.
Most of my development know how or knowledge came from Google search, YouTube how to and other community online. A basic design using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, then PHP and MySQL at the backend. I also given an opportunity to develop desktop application using VB6 (now you might get the idea what year I am that time) with MS Access for backend data records. From here everything is history, developed using C#, .Net for desktop application and MS SQL for back end, then in Web development using framework like CodeIgniter and Laravel then MySQL, Firebase, MongoDB PostgresSQL for data records.
Currently I am a Full stack Web Developer, and Full stack IT Specialist (still do server and network management and configuration if needed). My next line of career upgrade is Mobile development and Data Science (in my childhood days I dream to be a scientist someday). You might wonder at this era of technology I just decided a career in mobile development, well if you recall from my career journey being a technician to a programmer or developer, I don’t switch full time because I’m careful to swing a new zone, because on those 5 years of technician career I made a lot of mistakes, switching from one zone to another. For example, I just learned a new thing about network infra and security management right there and then I want to switch career with that said switching employer from one to another and that affect my career afterwards, but it’s all past now and, I thank Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the golden opportunity, it was like a restart of my career.
On my closing note, don’t be afraid to take leap just make it sure you don’t leap all the way, one step at a time eventually you can reach your desired career. Don’t regret mistake, its there to make you human and be a good person the next time. You can be content to what career you have already but it also nice to try something new, as they say, “if it’s for you, its for you”, “if it’s destined for you, you can’t run from it”. For me my only regret in life is that I did not try to do new things in life while I am young.
